5 Killed In North Carolina Mass Shooting Overnight

The suspect has now been identified by police as a 15-year-old white male currently in hospital and he is said to be in critical condition.

AP- A Mass shooting occurred Thursday evening in Raleigh, North Carolina,
in which an armed suspect killed at least five people, including an off-duty police officer, before being
apprehended by authorities.
According to the mayor of the city, Mary-Ann Baldwin, the shooting took place near the Neuse River
Greenway, a popular trail on the outskirts of the state capital.

The suspect has now been identified by police as a 15-year-old white male currently
in hospital and he is said to be in critical condition.
Although no motive has been established, Lieutenant Jason Borneo of Raleigh Police stated that the
investigation is ongoing.

On Friday morning, the names of the deceased were made public.
Another police officer, as well as at least two other people, were wounded and taken to the hospital.
The police department says that the officer was let go, but the victim, who is 59 years old, is still in
critical condition.

According to The Associated Press/USA TODAY/Northeastern University Mass Killings database, the
violence in Raleigh was the 25th mass killing in 2022 in which the victims were shot and killed.

“A mass killing occurs when at least four people, excluding the perpetrator, are killed.
We must put an end to this. We have to deal with gun violence. We have a lot to
do and a lot to mourn tonight,” Governor Cooper stated.
