One of the activists who contributed to the creation of Black Lives Matter (BLM), Patrisse Cullors, has disclosed that her cousin Keenan Anderson was just assassinated by the Los Angeles Police Department. On Sunday, Patrisse announced the news on Instagram. Keenan was slain on January 3 in Venice. He was a “high school-aged children’s” English instructor.
“LAPD has killed three people this year. One of them is my family member. Keenan deserves to be alive right now, his child deserves to be raised by his father. Keenan we will fight for you and for all of our loved ones impacted by state violence.”

Following Patrisse’s article, a tweet from @blmlosangeles stated that “a little traffic collision shouldn’t result in death.” Additionally, the group stated that the LAPD “stole Keenan from his loved ones by tasing him to death” and that they would “demand justice in his name.” Notably, Keenan leaves behind a kid who is 6 years old. In a press statement dated January 6, the authorities provided their perspective on the situation. Officers mentioned that they responded to a traffic collision on January 3 in the afternoon in their statement. They apparently saw a man running in the center of the roadway and acting erratically when they arrived at the scene, subsequently identified as Keenan Anderson. Officers report that shortly after making contact, Keenan “suddenly sought to run” as more units were summoned for a DUI investigation. Keenan was tased by police when the situation deteriorated to the point where he “fell into cardiac collapse and was pronounced dead” at a nearby hospital.
“As cops approached Anderson, he started to push back, which led to the use of force. For several minutes, officers strained against Anderson’s resistance, using bodyweight, forceful grips, a TASER, and joint locks. Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) officials arrived on the site shortly after Anderson was brought into custody and provided first assistance in preparation for the use of the TASER. Anderson was taken to a neighborhood hospital in the City of Santa Monica via a rescue ambulance (RA). Anderson experienced a heart collapse while in the hospital and was later declared dead. No more information from a toxicology report is publically accessible about the claims that Keenan “exhibited erratic conduct.” Furthermore, Patrisse didn’t respond to the internet accusation.

Patrisse published a link to a GoFundMe through her Instagram Story to aid with funeral and memorial expenses while people wait for answers. Additionally, it appears that a another GoFundMe was also started to assist in paying for his son’s “present schooling and future college fees.” – Steve Sijenyi
