The mother of Floyd’s daughter, Roxie Washington, will sue Kanye West for “harassment,
misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress,” according to a news release
obtained by The Times on Tuesday.

The “Donda” rapper made disparaging remarks about Floyd’s death in 2020 just a few days before
Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pinned him to the ground for nearly ninety-two minutes,
prompting the lawsuit. The Black Lives Matter movement and worldwide protests against police
brutality were sparked by Floyd’s death.
Chauvin was found guilty of murdering Floyd in April 2021.West questioned Floyd’s cause of death over
the weekend.
According to the news release, “Kanye West stated malicious falsehoods about George Floyd to profit
from Mr. Floyd’s horrendous death and his family’s trauma. Floyd’s daughter is being retraumatized by
Kanye West’s comments and he’s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her,” the attorneys
for Floyd’s family stated in addition.
The family of GeorgeFloyd is considering legal action against Kanye for making false claims about the
manner in which he passed away, despite the fact that one cannot defame the deceased.
