After getting caught in possession of a sizable armory at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, 27-year-old Brandon James Bentley was recently accused. (N.C. A&T). Bentley, who was discovered in possession of a rifle, a revolver, a live pistol, and two shotguns at the historically Black college and university (HBCU) of North Carolina A&T, was arrested last Sunday, according to WGHP.
WXII 12 also notes that he was in possession of more than 1,000 rounds of ammo at the time of his 4 a.m. detention. Bentley was also discovered to be in custody of brass knuckles, a hatchet, a blade, a stun gun, pepper spray, a baton, and multiple weapons, so that wasn’t all he was carrying. Along with these more unusual possessions, he was also caught in possession of a crossbow, a “blowdart weapon,” a blade, “choking devices,” and “claws”—as well as what was referred to as a “makeshift firework explosive.”
Bentley was allegedly discovered to be in possession of a number of strange items, including “holy water” and a poultry foot. He was consequently charged separately with having a handgun, explosive, and non-gun weapon on school grounds. He was also accused of reckless driving, driving while his license was revoked, and having a hidden weapon. Bentley’s bail was allegedly put at $100,000, and it’s not known if he is still in jail. WXII 12 notes that, in response to Bentley’s arrest, N.C. A&T released a statement to shed further light on the situation.
“On March 26 at approximately 4 a.m., Brandon James Bentley was arrested on the North Carolina A&T State University campus after being encountered driving unsafely in the area of Sullivan Street and Benbow Road. After campus law enforcement discovered weapons in the vehicle, Bentley was immediately arrested, and the weapons confiscated.”
The institution also noted that because of the quick and decisive action of law enforcement, a campus alert was not issued, as the suspect no longer constituted an ongoing threat to campus safety. After pointing out that a joint investigation between numerous agencies is underway, N.C. A&T declared that Bentley who “has no affiliation” with the school has been banned.
“The FBI, State Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Greensboro Police Department are in charge of an ongoing joint investigation into this incident. Bentley, who has no affiliation with A&T, has been banned from the North Carolina A&T campus.”
