Republicans Are Suing Google Over E Mail Spam Filtering

A study from North Carolina State University reportedly found that Republican emails were sent to spam at a higher rate than Democratic ones

In the beginning of this year, Republicans complained to Google that Gmail was sending their campaign
emails to spam folders. According to Axios, the Republican National Committee (RNC) filed a California
lawsuit against Google for allegedly sending GOP marketing campaign emails to the spam folder at a
time when fundraising is especially important in advance of the congressional midterm elections in
November.

A study from North Carolina State University reportedly found that Republican emails were sent to spam
at a higher rate than Democratic ones, bolstering the GOP’s mistrust of Google’s spam filtering.
However, Mashable’s own reporting on the subject discovered that an email sender’s habits typically
trigger spam filtering more than their political affiliation. Google has repeatedly denied that this is the

case. To put it another way, sending a lot of the same emails over and over again so that they don’t get
opened often is a surefire way to end up in Spamville.

It’s possible that Republicans are the targets of a Google conspiracy, or it’s possible that the GOP simply
does not understand how to send emails. In either case, it may now go to court.
