SAVAGE X FENTY SLAPPED WITH $1.2M FINE FOR ALLEGEDLY MISLEADING CUSTOMERS

Savage X Fenty debuted with a bang, and fans all over the world have spent a fortune on the daring underwear, but the brand is getting ready to repay customers. Rihanna is paying $1.2 million to settle a lawsuit alleging she misled Savage X Fenty clients, in violation of California’s amended automatic-renewal legislation. According to Paper Magazine, the Santa Clara County and four other California municipal governments filed a complaint alleging that Rihanna’s lingerie company deceived customers by automatically enrolling them in the Savage X Fenty Xtra VIP plan.

The $49.95 monthly plan entitles members to significant savings and other benefits such as special sales and styles. However, if clients fail to click the usual price for their desired items, a button that is purportedly located lower on the screen as contrasted to the vivid VIP pricing button, their transaction would allegedly be completed under the VIP discount, automatically enrolling them in the VIP plan. Savage X Fenty has now cooperated with the investigation and has made modifications to its website, automatic renewal reminders, and its store credit and advertising policies.

Customers who considered the membership concept misleading filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau.  Truth In Advertising (TINA), a consumer watchdog group, filed a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against the lingerie business and its parent company, TechStyle, which also owns Shoedazzle and Fabletics, in 2020. – Steve Sijenyi
